Limb Lengthening

Limb Lengthening Surgery - Taller, Stronger, Confident

Limb lengthening surgery gradually extends bone length. A small cut is made in the bone, and the ends are slowly pulled apart. New bone tissue fills the gap and hence lengthens the bone. People who suffer from short height, limb length discrepancy are ideal for the surgery.

Procedure

There are two main techniques:

  • Ilizarov with Nail: A nail is inserted into the bone, and an external fixator is used for distraction. This technique reduces recovery time and provides early mobility.
  • Precice Nail: The Precice nail is an internal lengthening device that is inserted into the bone through a small incision. The nail is then gradually lengthened using a magnetic remote control gradually over three to four months to achieve the desired length.

Recovery

Recovery varies depending on the surgery technique but often involves crutches or a walker support walking for 12 weeks. Full recovery can take over a year.
